Tell President Obama: Don't Let the Senate Climate Bill Get Hijacked by the Nuclear Power Industry!

Nuclear Information and Resource Service

KEEP IT UP!
TELL PRESIDENT OBAMA: NO NUKES IN SENATE CLIMATE BILL!

Dear Friends,

More than 1500 people already have sent a letter to President Obama with the clear message that the Senate climate bill must not provide more taxpayer subsidies to nuclear power.

That's great--but we can do better! If you haven't yet sent your own letter, please do so here.

And please pass the word on to your friends; post this link to your Facebook and Myspace pages; Tweet it; put it on your blogs:

Print this Alert and pass it around at your 4th of July celebrations, or just tell people to go to www.nirs.org and send a letter to Obama from there.

At the moment, the Senate energy bill (as yet unnumbered) gives a nine-member unelected board the power to give unlimited taxpayer loan guarantees for construction of new nuclear reactors. That's simply unacceptable.

It also gives taxpayer money for dirty and uneconomic reprocessing technologies and declares strong support for new nuclear power. Those are unacceptable too.

When the Senate gets back from its July 4th recess, we'll start focusing on them. But for now, let's all tell President Obama that we can't support a climate bill that is a giveaway to the nuclear power industry.

It's great that we finally have a President who understands the need to take action on the climate crisis. But wasting potentially trillions of dollars on nuclear power would make things worse, not better. And we say trillions deliberately. Check out this new report by economist Marc Cooper: http://www.nirs.org/neconomics/cooperreport_neconomics062009.pdf

So, if you haven't yet sent your letter to President Obama, please do so here.

Please spread the word. And, if you can make a small contribution here, that will help us spread the word and be gratefully appreciated as well.

Thanks for all you do,
