Assuming a market price of $0.25/m3 ($7 per 1000 ft3), the cost per joule is

Cost/joule = [ $0.25/m3 ] / [ 3.69 x 107 joules/m3 ] = 6.8 x 10-9 $/joule

The above conversion factor assumes

5.5 x 107 joules/kg x 0.67 kg/m3 = 3.69 x 107 joules/m3

Notes: Prices are in nominal dollars. Beginning with the January 2008 report period, state level data for electric power volumes and prices will be delayed as EIA works to bring these data up to the schedule that is used for the residential, commercial, and industrial sectors. Gas volumes delivered for use as vehicle fuel are included in the State annual totals through 2006 but not in the State monthly components. Through 2001, electric power price data are for regulated electric utilities only; beginning in 2002, data also include nonregulated members of the electric power sector.  See Definitions, Sources, and Notes link above for more information on this table.
