Course Description

HS134: Introduction to Philosophy

We will discuss some of the perennial problems of philosophy. We will commence by reading some classical texts of eminent thinkers in the history of Western philosophy such as Plato, Aristotle, Aquinas, Descartes, Berkeley, Hume, and Kant. The focus of the course is on instilling students with the capacity to pose philosophical questions themselves, and steering them toward the realization that they have been philosophizing somewhat unconsciously throughout their lives.
