I oversee all editing of the KAIST Times. I am a humanities professor at KAIST interested mainly in language - but other areas also. I research logical thinking and expression through language, and direct the Logical Writing Program at KAIST.

I am especially interested in intrinsic linguistic systems. I have written several books on this subject, including The Principle of Word-Formation in Korean, Generative Grammar Beyond Barriers, What is Argument Structure? Through these works I won the Excellent Academic Book Award given by the National Academy of Science.

I am also interested in interdisciplinary research at the boundaries of language and computers, language and cultural technology, and so forth. I served for several years as Deputy Director of the Korea Technology Research Center for Language and Knowledge Engineering. Now I operate the Digital Storytelling and Communication Lab at the KAIST Graduate School of Culture Technology, teaching digital storytelling and digital communication.

I am determined to popularize language and writing. I am the author of The Riddle of the Korean Language, which is a bestseller in the humanities division, and I'm presently writing another book for popularizing language. I'm also dreaming of becoming a jazz pianist (even though I can't play the piano at all). I love talking and debating with people.

My life's objective is “being harmonic”. I constantly emphasize harmony and moderation. My wife, Won-Lee who is a creative writing professor, teaches modern poetry at Korea University. I have a ten year old daughter.
