Introduction
Dates: April 3 to 6, 2008
Location: Harvard Campus
Description
For more than fifteen years, Harvard Project for Asian and International Relations (HPAIR) has been the premier gathering place for students from around the globe as the largest student conference in Asia. For the first year ever, HPAIR will host an academic conference held on-campus at Harvard University. The inaugural HPAIR On-Campus Conference will be the first forum of 2008 as part of HPAIR's showcase of conferences for its 17th year in running.
Cosmopolitan Asia: Diversity and Disparity
Continuing its tradition of academic excellence, HPAIR On-Campus Conference seeks to create a rigorous forum for dialogue and exchange. Covering topics on development, globalization, public health, international relations, and cultural transformations, the On-Campus Conference will invite both foreign delegates and Harvard students to engage in thoughtful conversations regarding critical issues affecting Asia and the world today. More than 250 delegates will attend plenary sessions, panels, and small, interactive evening discussion groups to create an atmosphere of open exchange. The theme for our inaugural conference will be " Cosmopolitan Asia: Diversity and Disparity", examining Asia's current situation from interdisciplinary perspectives, studying its past achievements and upcoming challenges.
As the first full-scale conference that HPAIR brings to Harvard, the On-Campus Conference will offer delegates a unique Harvard experience. The delegates will not only be able to tour this almost four-hundred-year-old campus, but also interact with Harvard students and professors in both academic and informal settings. In addition, early applicants can choose to have a Harvard student host and stay in that student's dorm during the conference.
