Schedule and Venue

The theme of HPAIR 2008 Academic Conference is Beyond Borders: Asia on the World Stage. The conference aims to identify key areas of change in Asia today and discuss their implications for the future.

The HPAIR Organizing Committee is pleased to team with the Host Country Organizing Committee (HCOC) Kuala Lumpur, consisting of students from Universiti Malaya. The main venue of HPAIR 2008 Academic Conference will be the Hilton Kuala Lumpur and Universiti Malaya.

Pre-Conference / Day Zero:

Pre-registration will be available on this day to delegates who arrive in Kuala Lumpor early. In addition, Pre-Conference tours led by members of the HCOC will also be available, and first-time visitors to Kuala Lumpur may find this an excellent opportunity to explore the city's numerous sights.

Day 1:

The conference begins with an opening speech by a head of state (or closest-level equivalent), a Harvard University HPAIR advisor, and the ASEAN Secretary General. Two one-and-half-hour panel workshop sessions will be conducted throughout the day, broken up by lunch and coffee breaks. Panel workshop sessions are designed to facilitate discussions between student delegates and speakers. Finally, Thematic Workshops will meet.

Day 2:

The day begins with a plenary session (tentative topic: Higher Education in Asia) and contains panel sessions and workshop sessions throughout the day, similar to Day 1.

Day 3:

A second plenary session (ASEAN as an Economic and Geopolitical Region) followed by final round of panel sessions and Thematic Workshops. Nighttime activity features an "International Night" in Universiti Malaya, our host university, with students operating country booths and staging cultural performances.

Day 4:

Students embark on field trips specific to their chosen Panel Workshop. The goal of field trips is to complement workshop discussions. Moreover, paper presenters will be presenting their work according to panel workshops. The conference ends with an evening banquet and closing keynote speeches in the Hilton Kuala Lumpur.

Dates and schedules are tentative unless otherwise noted. A detailed, finalized schedule as well as a delegate manual will be made available to registered delegates as the conference date approaches.
