The Harvard Project for Asian and International Relations is a student-run organization consisting of undergraduates and graduate students of Harvard University.

Chelsea Lei

Chelsea has been with HPAIR since freshmen year. In fact, HPAIR was an important reason that she decided to attend Harvard. As Co-Chair, she is proud of HPAIR's continued presence in Asia and excited about HPAIR's first on-campus conference at Harvard. She is committed to HPAIR's vision of bringing together the world's current and future leaders and strives to improve the qualities of the "HPAIR experience" for delegates, speakers, partners, and staff.

Chelsea is a Social Studies concentrator, with interests in social theory, law and history of science. She enjoys writing, squash, dance, and also has a passion for geology.

Hong Liu

Hong Liu has joined HPAIR in 2005 as an on-campus associate; he attended the 2006 conference in Singapore as an operations associate and served as the COO for the 2007 academic conference in Beijing. As co-chair this year, Hong looks forward to work on creating an HPAIR alumni network and bring closer ties with HPAIR partnership clubs, in addition to initiating a new spring conference at Harvard.

Hong was born in Wuhan, China; at the age of 12, he immigrated to the United States with his mother. As a junior at Harvard, Hong concentrates in the interdisciplinary Social Studies as a result of his numerous academic interests and desire for broad scope rather than specialized knowledge. He plans to focus on the interaction of various social, philosophical, and ethical theories and intellectual history.

Outside of class, Hong enjoys discussions on philosophy, history, social theory, literature and anything humanities or social science, especially on subjects related to East Asia. To him, three things are of paramount importance: books, friends, and tea.

Edmond Cheuk

As the Executive Director of the Business Conference, Edmond aims to achieve three main objectives: first, to further expand the role of the Business Conference in HPAIR; second, to create an sustainable HPAIR endowment and establish a broader network of HPAIR partnership institutions across the world; third, to build the foundations for a new and improved HPAIR organizational structure

Currently, Edmond is a junior concentrating in Economics and Government. He is primarily interested in the economic development and government policies in his hometown, Hong Kong SAR.

Beyond schoolwork and HPAIR, Edmond is also actively involved in the Harvard College Consulting Group, a Harvard student organization that offers pro-bono consulting services for clients in the Boston and Harvard communities. In his freetime, Edmond enjoys music composition, fine dining, and running.

Steve Teng

This is Steve's second year with HPAIR. In this previous year working with HPAIR, he designed many of the HPAIR printed materials.

This year, Steve hopes to organize a successful inaugural on-campus HPAIR conference to continue and expand HPAIR's tradition of facilitating relationships between current and future leaders.

Steve is a sophmore majoring in Chemical and Physical Biology and minoring in ecomics.

Sam Rosenberg

This is Sam's second year with HPAIR. Previously, he worked as an Academic Conference associate and as a Speaker Relations associate.

As Co-Chief Operating Officer of the Academic Conference, Sam hopes to deliver a smoothly run conference this year in Hanoi. He will work closely with the Hanoi HCOC to ensure clear communication from across both sides of the Pacific. Additionally, Sam will be working on managing logistics for the Harvard on campus conference.

Sam is a mathematics concentrator interested in the intersection of analysis and geometry. Sam enjoys traveling, cooking, and design.

Ting Zhang

Ting Zhang is a sophomore and a second-year HPAIR staff member. As a finance director, she hopes to promote HPAIR's growth throughout the Asia-Pacific region in order to facilitate and encourage more in-depth discussion on Asia's current political, social, and economic policies.

Ting is planning to major in economics and psychology. She is also interested in international relations and environmental sustainability.

When she is not working on HPAIR, Ting likes to jog, play violin, and listen to an eclectic mix of music. She is also training to become certified in teaching group aerobics.

John Zhou

John Zhou is a sophomore studying Applied Mathematics in Biology. He is committed to HPAIR's goal of increased dialogue and mutual understanding within the Asia-Pacific region. He also hopes to take a closer look at how issues of finance and science/technology impact the Asia-Pacific region.

In terms of other interests, John has researched statistical genetics, materials science, bioengineering, protein-protein interactions, and partition theory. He enjoys community service, especially assisting in programs concerning HIV/AIDS and education. He also plays the clarinet.

Shiyang Cao

Shiyang is a Junior studying Applied Math and Economics. This is his 3rd year with HPAIR, the first two as Chief Technology Offier, and this year as CIO. Shiyang organizes and handles all the flow of informational both interally and externally.

In his spare time, Shiyang is very actively involved with the Harvard Model UN program, and enjoys Economics Research.

Yuan Bill Zhu

This is Bill's second year with HPAIR. Actually, Bill's real name is "Yuan Zhu", and "Bill" is just an alias a teacher randomly assigned to him in an elementary school in Shanghai.

A junior economics concentrator, Bill has organized a workshop on economic growth last year, and he is the Head of Workshop Leaders for the Hanoi conference. His dream is to set up six awesome workshops this year in order to satisfy the delegates' demand and maximize their utilities.

Bill was born in Beijing, but moved to Osaka, Japan, where he lived until high school graduation. When he is not working on HPAIR, Bill enjoys Piano, Violin, Aikido, Wushu, squash, snowboarding, and listening to Chopin.

This is Ben's second year with HPAIR. Last year, he was an associate for the Academic Conference as well as a Plenary co-director.

As the director of Speaker Relations this year, Ben hopes to maintain the strong relationships that HPAIR has built with its speakers over the years and continue to bring the most prominent leaders of Asia to HPAIR.

Ben is an economics concentrator pursuing a career in finance. He loves traveling, plays basketball, and enjoys long naps.

Kylie joined HPAIR this year as Senior Director for the Business Conference. As a sophomore from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Kylie is excited to be bringing the conference home next summer! With this home-ground advantage, Kylie has no doubt that next year's conference will be a great success and is happy to have an amazing team working with her. Kylie is an economics concentrator with a keen interest in finance. She is also involved in the Harvard College Investment Magazine, Harvard Undergraduate Women in Business and the Harvard University Art Museums.

Christopher Kwok

As someone who is very much interested in the economic development and geopolitics in Asia Pacific, Chris is excited to lead the operations team of the HPAIR 2008 Business Conference. Working closely with the Finance team on logistics, he hopes to bring about a professional event program and also optimize costs in the accommodation and transportation arrangements.

At Harvard, Chris is a junior concentrating in Chemistry with a secondary field in economics. He finds medicinal chemistry and organic synthesis particularly interesting, and is currently working as a research assistant at the Harvard Institute of Medicine on a drug development project targeted at Alzheimer's disease.

Outside of School and HPAIR, Chris spends time in the chemistry lab and also volunteers for Harvard Chinatown Citizenship, a student-led naturalization assistance program that serves the Boston Chinatown Community. In his free time, Chris enjoys landscape photography, good food and wakeboarding.

Taking on the role of the Director of Finance and Corporate Relations for the Business Conference, Jennifer aims to build and maintain a strong financial base to support HPAIR in all of its challenging endeavors. This year, she is excited to lead her team in contributing to HPAIR's goals of creating a dynamic forum for valuable exchange among corporate leaders, academic professionals, and aspiring students to explore the many facets of Asia's rapid emergence onto the global corporate stage.

As a second-year student at Harvard, Jennifer is thoroughly enjoying her college learning experience. She concentrates in History and Economics, with a focus on the financial roots of modernization and globalization.

Outside of her academic life and extracurricular activities, she fills her time pursuing interests such dancing, hiking, and traveling.

Sarah Wang

Sarah Wang joined HPAIR this year as the Director of Speaker Relations. Sarah is extremely excited to have the opportunity to help put together this year's business conference in Malaysia and dedicated to making this year's conference and speaker list the best it's been.

Born and raised in the Midwest, Sarah is currently a sophomore majoring in Economics and Psychology, with a citation in Chinese. In her free time, Sarah enjoys reading, watching movies, playing volleyball, and spending time with family and friends. She hopes to practice her French and Chinese by traveling the world someday.

Xi grew up in Beijing and went to high school in England. He is now a Mathematics concentrator at Harvard. He also enjoys classical music.

Laura Chirot

Laura is a Social Studies concentrator who has spent her last two summers working with American NGOs in Central Vietnam. She is currently writing her thesis on landmine clearance and economic development in Vietnam. Laura is very happy to be a part of the 2008 Academic Conference in Hanoi, and is looking forward to working with the HPAIR staff on planning the plenaries.

This will be my first year with HPAIR and I'm extremely excited to be planning a wonderful business conference in Malaysia. I signed on to HPAIR because I had heard of it from a former high school classmate. I'm excited to be an active participant in Asia's current booming business world and to watch as it grows around me for the next four years.

I am considering concentrating in Applied Math Economics with a secondary in English Language and Literature. My interests range from trying to increase an understanding of the Asian community on campus to singing, quite terribly, in my free time.

Lucille Hu

This is Lucille's first year with HPAIR, and she is serving as a finance associate.

She is committed to HPAIR's goal of increasing dialogue within the Asian-Pacific region, and she is also enthusiastic about learning more about finance issues in that area.

Lucille is a freshman intending to concentrate in the life sciences or bioengineering. Outside of school, she enjoys spending time with friends, reading, writing, and swimming.

Yichen Chen

Yichen is a new member of the alumni team. As a rising Freshman, Yichen served as an interpreter for HPAIR '07 in Beijing, summer 2007.

Very excited about the coming HPAIR conferences, she hopes to help bring all the awesome former delegates and staff members of HPAIR together and make a difference to Asia.

Originally from Beijing, China, Yichen speaks Mandarin and a little Cantonese.

Yichen is interested in economics, math, social studies, history, literature, and government, from which she has yet to choose a concentration. She is also participating in Ballroom Dancing (social), and Cambridge Microfinance Initiative.

Mei is very excited to be on HPAIR! She is extremely interested in business in Asia and hopes to help organize a fabulous conference in Malaysia this summer! A sophomore in Quincy House, Mei is studying Economics and Psychology, and is especially interested in real estate development and finance in Asia. Outside HPAIR, she is involved with Women in Business, coxes for the Varsity Lightweight Crew team, and volunteers with the American Red Cross. Originally from sunny California, Mei loves hairstyling, drinking bubble tea, and having fun!

This is Robert's first year with HPAIR. He looks forward to contributing to the organization and furthering the collaboration between the East and West through the Business Conference.

Robert Thwaits is currently a sophomore concentrating in Economics. Aside from economics, his other academic interests include molecular biology, statistics, and Roman and Greek mythology (especially the stories of Homer, Vergil, and Ovid).

Beyond school and extra-curricular activities, Robert enjoys soccer, movie watching, and long walks on the beach.

Zhongrui "Henry" Yin is a freshman from Beijing, China. A potential Economics or Social Studies concentrator, he is very interested in issues related to China and greater Asia, and hopes to gain knowledge in that field through participating in HPAIR. Apart from HPAIR, Zhongrui is also involved in the International Relations Council and is on the Matthews Hall intramural soccer team. He is a Manchester United Supporter.

This is Lucy's first year on the HPAIR staff. A freshman at Harvard College from Lansdale, Pennsylvania, she is working on the Business Conference. She looks forward to bringing her enthusiasm and experience to HPAIR and helping the organization further develop and improve. She will focus this year on obtaining sponsors and publicizing HPAIR globally.

Lucy hopes to pursue a career in business or law at the international level. She has yet to decide her concentration, but is considering Economics or Psychology.

Outside of HPAIR, Lucy enjoys music, spending time with her friends, and playing racquetball.

Weike is a freshman and she is currently thinking about concentrating in the life sciences, probably neurobiology and chemistry; but at the same time, she enjoys creative writing and art. She is also very interested in the idea of global unity though diversity and thus became interested in HPAIR for the organization's ability to bring some many people around the world together for intellectual discussion. She hopes that her efforts in HPAIR will help facilitate the organization in its internationalism mission.

This is Tami's first year with HPAIR. She joined the organization in hopes of pursuing her interests in Asia and international relations. She moved to Seattle from Seoul, Korea six years ago.

A freshman interested in studying economics and psychology, Tami also loves to play golf and travel.

This is Jade's first year with HPAIR giving her all the more reasons to be super excited about seeing how all the hard work will bring together an amazing academic conference this summer in Vietnam, her native land.

Jade is currently a sophomore at Harvard College concentrating in Psychology (Social & Cognitive Neuroscience track-although she has a strong interest in social psychology as well) and possibly pursuing a secondary field in Economics. She is still exploring her options after college, but law, specifically international law, is something she is definitely considering.

Her hobbies include volleyball, scrap booking, photography, and like every other girl, shopping. She is involved in a variety of organizations on campus, but reading to preschoolers is one of the activities she finds most rewarding because she absolutely loves children! She also loves learning about different cultures and eating their food. And she loves meeting new people, so come say hello to her sometime!

This is Joo Hyung's first year with HPAIR. A freshman concentrating in Economics and Statistics, Joo Hyung is particularly interested in 18th-19th century Chinese social and political history. He brings his past experiences as a research assistant at Harvard and Renmin University in Beijing and as a Reischauer Scholar at Stanford. He looks forward to working with HPAIR with the academic conference and in developing stronger relationships with HPAIR alumni.

Outside of HPAIR, Joo Hyung enjoys playing the erhu, travelling, learning Mandarin and Japanese, and being involved with the Consulting Group and Investment Association on campus.

Yifan Li

Yifan has long had an interest in the Asia Pacific's languages, people, history, and recent economic growth. As a new member of HPAIR, Yifan aims to use his regional and language knowledge and skills to contribute to HPAIR's connection and network with its alumni around the world.

Yifan is a freshman joint concentrating in Economics and East Asian Studies. He was born in Dalian, China. When he was 10, Yifan moved to the Bay Area, where he now calls home.

His interests include music, art, architecture, geography, and history. In addition to HPAIR, Yifan enjoys Google Earthing, painting, playing the piano, and his involvement in the exciting activities that Harvard has to offer.

Daniel Metzel

This is Dan's first year with HPAIR, and he looks forward to helping organize our first on-campus conference, as well as the academic conference in Vietnam.

A freshman hoping to concentrate in Chemical and Physical Biology, Dan is also interested in international relations, and hopes to pursue a Secondary Field in Government. He began studying Chinese this year and plans to continue throughout his time at Harvard.

Outside of HPAIR, Dan also helps organize Harvard's HMUN and HNMUN conferences, in addition to competing on the Model UN team. Dan, a Louisiana-born Virginian, enjoys salsa dancing, Preston & Child novels, and exploiting Harvard's unlimited dining plan.

Gerald Tiu

Gerald is a new member to the Harvard staff and is interested in learning actively about current issues in Asia. He is especially interested in issues dealing with environment, medicine, health, and technology.

Gerald plans to concentrate in Chemical and Physical Biology and/or Engineering Sciences. Outside of HPAIR, he is also involved in the Asian American Dance Troupe, the Harvard Philippine Forum, and Experimentors. He also enjoys doing research in health related fields and learning about different cultures.

Gerald is of Burmese and Chinese ethnicity, but was born and raised in Orange County, California.
