Jaguars Break Record

Jaguars Defeat Broncos at "Monday Night Football", Record 12 Wins 1 Loss
Beat Old Enemy, Win by Last Minute Field Goal

The Jacksonville Jaguars brutally avenged the Denver Broncos on the 14th. They attacked Broncos vigorously in 4th quarter, and enjoyed the taste of horse flesh by beating them 27 to 24 - the first time in 3 years. Their last win over Denver was in the 1996 playoffs.

League-leader Jacksonville executed a powerful game from start to finish. It was as though they had decided to demonstrate their Super Bowl skills for their hometown fans in advance. But nothing much happened until the first period dragged to completion. Around the end of the first period, it showered, and the drenched Jaguars went on a wild rampage in the muddy stadium, reversing the losing game 14-10.

Tailor made 38-yard touchdown. Substitute player Fred Tyler made 14-yard and 7-yard runs in a row, even as James Steward was being taken away in an ambulance for a sprained ankle. It was as though he had been waiting for this moment.

Although Jacksonville was leading by the middle of 4th quarter 24-17, their persistent old enemy was not a team to just fade away. 1 minute and 43 seconds before the end of the game, Broncos' wide receiver Brian Greece made a 73-yard touchdown, returning the game to its starting point.

But then the hero of the game, Jaguar Mike Hollies, made a 23-yard buzzer goal in the last second. Thanks to Hollies' foot, Jacksonville achieved its best record since it was founded - 12 wins and 1 loss.
